Genta 50
Phoenix Genta 50 is an aqueous sterile solution of 50mg/ml Gentamycin sulphate base
Action
Gentamycin is a broad spectrum amino-glycoside antibiotic and acts by interfering with ribosomal peptide protein synthesis at both the RNA and ribosomal cycle stages producing a bactericidal action.
Indications
Indicated for the treatment and control of bacterial infection in horses, dogs and cats caused by sensitive organisms.
Contraindications
Do not use concurrently with general anaesthetics, muscle relaxants or high potency diuretics. Do not use in pregnant animals or those with renal failure. Do not use as an intra-uterine infusion on the same day as service
Dosage and Administration
Administer by i/m injection in horses or by i/m or sic injection in dogs and cats, i/m or s/c route in food producing animals should be in the anterior half of the neck.
Horses

2mg/kg (10-20ml) per i/m route every 8 hours.

Mares
|
For intra-uterine infusion; Dilute 20-50ml in 250-500ml sterile saline solution for 3-5 days during oestrus.

Cats and Dogs
|
5mg/kg (0.1ml) per i/m or s/c every 12 hours on the first day, thereafter once daily.

Toxicity / Antidote
Gentamycin may cause damage to the kidneys and to the vestibular apparatus associated with the eighth nerve.
Use calcium or anti-cholinesterase in case of neuromuscular block.
Withholding Time Meat
Horses: 63 days
